Trophees (2025)

What ?

Specifically designed for the project Sidelined (Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2025), these 10 trophies celebrate new forms of togetherness.

Why ?

Like “anti-trophies,” they challenge the binary systems of traditional sports, which categorize bodies as winners vs. losers, able-bodied vs. disabled, and male vs. female. By subverting the logics of performance, hierarchy, and competition, these trophies question the implicit norms that shape our relationship to merit, success, and the other.

How ?

In response, these “anti-trophies” celebrate empathy, solidarity, and collaboration, values embodied by the new sports developed by designer Gabriel Fontana — honoring, for example, the “Best Ally,” the “Rule Bender,” or the “Worst Cheater.” The soft materials and embroidered patches contrast sharply with the often strict nature of sports competitions, offering insights on what a more playful, emancipatory, and inclusive version of sport might look like.
